“Did you know that Only two-thirds of the paper, we throw out is recyclable?”
For instance, paper bags take 100 years to decompose. So, the next time you discard it, think about whether you want to throw them out or reuse them until you can’t.
Here are a few ideas to teach your kids, about waste management.
UPCYCLING
Delight in watching an underwater paradise full of colorful fish, plants, and bubbles. Collect plastic bottle caps from water and drink bottles. Paint the caps bright hues and make a whole school of flashy fish.
Large plastic bottles take on a new life as beautiful hanging planters. Kids will enjoy filling their planters with soil and watching their plant creations grow. These are just a few ways in which you can upcycle harmful plastic waste into useful art.
LITTERLESS LUNCH
Engage with your own child and community and think about packing a litter-free lunch. Use re-sealable containers for sandwiches and a thermos or reusable bottle for drinks.
COMPOST
If you dont have the space for composting, try creating a mini soil-arium. Have your kids toss a handful of soil, newspaper, dead leaves, and kitchen scraps into their respective jars. Finally, add rainwater and cap the whole concoction. Watch the organic matter turn into nutrient-rich soil in about two weeks.
